MacaroNight II
Macaronesia’s Researchers’ Night
Aim of the project
The “European Researchers Night” is a public event that promotes Science and Technology among young people, since 2005, and brings together scientists and the younger generations in an event with interactive and informal activities. This celebration has been carried out by Science Centers based in the Region since 2010 with the support of the Government of the Azores, starting to count, in 2018, 2019 and 2020, with the collaboration of the Regional Fund for Science and Technology and with the financing the Horizon 2020 Program, through the Marie-Curie Actions for the European Researchers’ Night (NEI), with the MacaroNight and MacaroNight II project.
The MACARONIGHT II project aims to raise public awareness of Science, Research and Innovation, especially in areas where the Region has exceptional performance and results and to encourage young people to pursue careers in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This project is also a opportunity to publicly promote the researchers who participate in this initiative, creating a public understanding of the impact of their work on the daily lives of citizens and on the environment that surrounds them.
Impact on the Azores Region
The FRCT coordinates the implementation of the project in the Azores and Leads WP2 – which defines the program for the ERN. As such, will be responsible for the implementation and overall coordination of all activities at night at all locations of MacaroNight. FRCT is also responsible for the local awareness activities and dissemination of the event, while promoting pre-events. FRCT will work closely with the Azores Sciences Centres on developing activities for the Azores Researchers Night.
