BlueMissionAA

Building a Coordination Hub to Support the Mission Implementation in the Atlantic and Arctic Basin

Aim of the project

BlueMissionAA CSA will be the coordination hub that will support the implementation of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030 in the Atlantic and Arctic basins, focusing on restoring marine and coastal ecosystems and increasing climate resilience. In addition, it will have a structuring effect to mobilize a broad community of relevant stakeholders and EU citizens towards achieving Mission objectives at the basin level. The BlueMissionAA will build upon the basin’s existing networks, instruments, activities, and governance frameworks. Still, it is also expected to go much beyond by providing innovative solutions allowing for a higher level of ambition in the future.

Overall, the BluemissionAA aims to deliver an effective governance framework aligned with policies, initiatives and actions at national, regional and EU levels [WP1], build a well-coordinated monitoring framework to assess the progress of the implementation on an ongoing basis [WP2], provide a comprehensive range catalogue of supporting services [WP3], foster an attractive innovation ecosystem for ecological restoration [WP4], and give the opportunity and empower EU citizens to engage in the preservation and restoration of oceans and waters through participative means [WP5].

the BlueMissionAA will have a long-lasting structuring effect to consolidate and mobilize a broad community of relevant stakeholders and EU citizens, including actors and networks of innovation ecosystems, towards the achievement of all Mission objectives at the basin level, affecting the Azores Islands and Macaronesian region, with emphasis on broad mobilization initiatives and demonstration of concrete solutions that, is successful, can be quickly replicated, scale up and marketed by 2030.

Finally, the BluemissionAA will develop two region-specific proposals towards an effective mission lighthouse governance, one for the Atlantic and one for the Arctic.
