Objective
This project aims to characterize the microbiome of a population of cattle from the Azores called Catrinas (native and morphologically distinct from other breeds, descendants of animals brought to the islands during colonization) raised in a production system based on pastures with low nutritive value and of a breed raised in semi-intensive/intensive systems (characterized by the use of pastures supplemented with silage and additives) – Holstein, to understand the interaction between the microbiome of these ruminants with their observed diet and with the levels of methane emissions produced, to minimize the environmental and socio-economic impact.
