MacaroNight 2021

The “European Researchers Night” is a public event that promotes Science and Technology among young people, since 2005, and brings together scientists and the younger generations in an event with interactive and informal activities. This celebration has been carried out by Science Centres based in the Region since 2010 with the support of the Government of the Azores, starting to count, in 2018, 2019 and 2020, with the collaboration of the Regional Fund for Science and Technology and with the financing the Horizon 2020 Program, through the Marie-Curie Actions for the European Researchers’ Night (NEI), with the MacaroNight, MacaroNight II and MacaroNight 2021 projects.

This new edition, MACARONIGHT 2021 aims at further widening public awareness towards science, research and innovation, especially in areas where the Region faces global challenges, such as those identified in the European Green Deal. The aim is to reach out to the population in general yet keeping specific focus on teenagers and young parents with kids in particular. The project will deploy an enhanced social-media strategy that aims to engage with citizens of different ages in their own words through their daily used channels. Activities will cover 16 islands with the “main” activities organised at 4 locations: Tenerife (La Laguna), Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), Madeira (Funchal), Azores (Ponta Delgada). The programmes will be organised as “hybrid” online/physical events that will attract 30 thousand participants in total.

In the Azores, the project will organize several side-events through the Azorean Science Centres, will host the European Research Night at “EMERGENCE@AÇORES – Ciência e Criatividade” and launch the series ““Açores com(s)Ciência”.
