The Things You’ll Inherit: A Novel

Objectivo
The project aims to explore contemporary Azorean identity through a dual structure:
(1) a work of contemporary fiction set on the island of São Miguel, grounded in the island’s history, culture, and folklore; and
(2) an autofictional component documenting on‑site experiences, conversations with residents, and reflections on how Azorean culture operates within its colonial legacy and shapes personal identity.
This work will follow a previous grant from the University of Notre Dame supported “Someplace Else,” a multimedia arts project based on his family’s history in São Miguel and will allow continued development of this project, advancing a creative and research‑driven investigation of Azorean heritage.
