Objectivo

This project aims to develop a feature‑length screenplay set in the Azores during World War I, using a father–son narrative to explore Portugal–U.S. relations amid the decline of the whaling industry and the growing presence of American naval forces. The work seeks to illuminate understudied regional history through cinematic storytelling.

Research will be conducted in collaboration with the Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada, the Museu Carlos Machado, and the Museu Militar dos Açores, fostering cross‑cultural exchange and grounding the screenplay in historical and community context. Alyssa Botelho, a screenwriter and filmmaker with dual degrees in Film/Media and Business Management from the University of Rhode Island, focuses her creative practice on community, psychology, folklore, and overlooked histories.
