The Regional Government, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, is coordinating the MOVE project – ‘Facilitating MAES to support regional policy in overseas Europe: mobilising stakeholders and pooling resources,” which will launch a series of online events, the so-called webinars, on mapping and assessing ecosystems and their services.

This project falls within action 5 of the European Union’s Biodiversity Strategy and is financed by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment, amounting to one million Euros. It aims to provide an important contribution to the mapping and evaluation of ecosystem services (MAES) in Outermost Regions as well as in European Overseas Countries and Territories.

The first webinar will take place on June 18 at 1 pm and will focus on the presentation of the preliminary results of the Canary Islands case study, including a discussion session to answer participants’ questions.

Each webinar is dedicated to one of the regions where the case studies developed during the project took place, namely Réunion, Martinique, Saint Martin, Canaries, Azores, French Guiana and Falkland Islands.

The Regional Director for Science and Technology, Bruno Pacheco, stated that these webinars represent “an excellent opportunity” to promote the exchange of knowledge on the process of mapping and evaluating ecosystem services in overseas territories. Additionally, they will “promote the discussion of relevant experiences among project partners, regional actors and the public in general.”

These online seminars are held in coordination with the University of Trento in order to foster the exchange of knowledge and scientific experiences.
