Objectives

  1. Increase knowledge about the chemical composition of Laurus azorica and Morella faya;
  2. Evaluate the anti-aging potential of compounds present in these species;
  3. Identify compounds with potential application in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries;
  4. Develop more sustainable and greener methodologies for analyzing the chemical composition of plants;
  5. Develop formulations of cosmetic products with extracts discovered with proven anti-aging activity;
  6. Increase the economic value of native species and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Azores;
  7. Enrich natural product databases with new structurally diverse compositions;
  8. To make the knowledge acquired known to the scientific community, as well as to the general public.

Results & Impact

  • Enhancement of natural product databases with new structurally distinct compounds, thus enriching global knowledge about chemical biodiversity.
  • Contribution to the discovery of new products with applications in combating both skin aging and diseases associated with aging.
  • Development of specific formulations for cosmetic products based on extracts proven to have anti-aging activity.
