Objective

This project aims to fill the existing gap in the assessment of the impacts of bottom fishing on deep-sea benthic communities, by applying an effective and replicable assessment methodology to evaluate Descriptor 6 (D6), directly addressing the requirements set by the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).

Results & Impact

Provide environmental status assessments of the deep-sea within the scope of D6 of the MSFD, using the Azores as a case study, while conducting evaluations of the environmental status of deep-sea benthic communities in the Azores to help clarify the definition of Good Environmental Status (GES).
