Bearing Witness: A Journey through Judaism in the Azores (Creative Non-Fiction)

Objectivo
This project aims to document and preserve the largely overlooked history of Jewish presence in the Azores. Through archival research, anthropological methods, and interviews, it seeks to create a cohesive and accessible account of Azorean Jewish heritage, a narrative that currently lacks comprehensive literature.
Working with scholars and local institutions—including the Sahar Hassamain Synagogue and Museum and the Azorean Jewish Heritage Foundation—the project will investigate cultural remnants, assist in preservation of sites such as the Campo de Igualdade cemetery, and examine the influence of Jewish traditions within Azorean culture. The research will culminate in a nonfiction book that brings visibility to a story that has remained largely untold.
