Interreg MAC
The Interreg MAC (Madeira, Azores and Canary Islands) Cooperation Program’s main objective is to promote cross-border and transnational cooperation between three outermost European regions (OR) – Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands – belonging to two member states, Portugal and Spain, and seven third countries – Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal and Sao Tome and Principe – five of which are part of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Among the priorities for EU action in support of the recovery and sustainable and inclusive growth of the ORs is cooperation with other European regions, with neighboring countries and across borders, with particular emphasis on Interreg and cooperation with Global Europe, to achieve common goals on innovation and competitiveness, ecological transition, the fight against climate change, mobility, and governance.
Under the new Interreg D vector, the MAC 2021-2027, continues to have as a priority objective to optimize the advantages arising from an integrated approach in the field of territorial cooperation, directing efforts, interests and shared values to the economic dynamism of the space, especially through the association with strategic areas such as tourism or the green and blue economy, as well as the consolidation of a sustainable development model supported by environmental protection and adaptation to climate change and risk management.
Open Call
For the 2021- 2027 program, it is planned to launch and present the 1st call for projects in the 2nd half of 2023.
