The Horizon 2020 - Community Research and Innovation Framework Program, with an overall budget of more than 77 billion Euros for the period 2014-2020, is the European Community's largest instrument specifically geared to support research, through co-financing of research, innovation and demonstration projects. The European Commission approved in 3 of June of 2015 the new Cooperation Program INTERREG V Spain-Portugal MAC (Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands) 2014-2020, with an overall budget of 130 Billion Euros (85% financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). On 17th of October of 2017, the EC approved an increase of the funding of the Program, which now has a total budget of about 149 million euros (ERDF EUR 126.5 million). The 2014-2020 Programme focuses on 5 main domains or thematic objectives: Axis 1: Strengthening research, technological development, and innovation; Axis 2: Improving the competitiveness of SMEs. Axis 3: Promote adaptation to climate change and risk prevention and management. Axis 4: Maintain and protect the environment and promote resource efficiency. Axis 5: Strengthen institutional capacity and efficiency in the Public Administration.

As part of the European Union’s Cohesion Policy, INTERREG Atlantic Area supports transnational cooperation projects in 36 Atlantic regions of five countries: France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, contributing to the achievement of economic, social and territorial cohesion. The Programme overall objective is to implement solutions to answer to regional challenges in the fields of innovation, resource efficiency, environment and cultural assets, supporting regional development and sustainable growth. With a total budget of EUR 185 million, which comprises a fund allocation above EUR 140 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Programme focuses on four main priorities axes and specific objectives related: Priority 1: Stimulating innovation and competitiveness (EUR 62.8 million); Priority 2: Fostering resource efficiency (EUR 39.6 million); Priority 3: Strengthening the territory's resilience to risks of natural, climate and human origin (EUR 20.3 million); Priority 4: Enhancing biodiversity and the natural and cultural assets (EUR 52.6 million).

Interreg Europe helps regional and local governments across Europe to develop and deliver better policy. By creating an environment and opportunities for sharing solutions, this Programme aims to ensure that government investment, innovation and implementation efforts all lead to integrated and sustainable impact for people and place. Interreg Europe financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for 2014-2020 and has an overall budget of EUR 359 million.

The European Union's Erasmus+ Programme is a funding scheme to support activities in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport. The Programme is made up of three so-called "Key Actions" and two additional actions: KA1 Learning Mobility of Individuals, KA2 Cooperation for Innovation and the exchange of good practices, KA3 Support to policy reforms, Jean Monnet and Sport. They are managed partly at the national level by National Agencies and partly at the European level by the EACEA. The European Commission is responsible for Erasmus+ policies and oversees the overall programme implementation.
