Aim of the Project:

SmartDest main objective is to promote cooperation between the archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde to transform these territories into Intelligent Tourist Destinations (DTI).

The project aims at practical results through pilot actions in the 4 partner regions, through the implementation of technological solutions developed by the companies, together with research centers. Therefore, SmartDest seeks to promote an innovative, accessible, integrated, connected and competitive tourist destination, consolidated on a technological infrastructure that guarantees the sustainable development of the territory and that facilitates the interaction and integration of the visitor with the destination and the residents, enriching the tourist experience and quality of life for residents.

Project responsibilities:
The FRCT integrates SmartDest as a beneficiary, being responsible for the implementation of the project in the Azores, with the specific tasks of preparing a Proposal for the Conversion Plan of the Azores into a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) and implementing actions in the pilot area - Praia da Vitória, on Terceira Island (creation of innovative technological solutions).

Impact on the Azores Region:
The SmartDest project aims to foster cooperation and knowledge transfer between companies and research centers, improving the “intelligence” of the collaboration space with the implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions, which promotes the conversion of the Azores into a DTI.

In this sense, SCTA actors and companies, which also participate in the RIS3 Azores Tourism Thematic Working Group, were invited to be stakeholders in the project, contributing to the establishment of networks and partnerships.
